This concert juxtaposes a Baroque masterpiece with jazzy Argentinean tango. Four violin soloists will be accompanied by a string chamber orchestra in Vivaldi's Four Seasons, followed by the Four Seasons in Buenos Aires ("Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas") by Astor Piazzolla. Piazzolla is a key figure in elevating the popular folk dance of his native land - the tango - into a sophisticated art form. In his Four Seasons in Buenos Aires, Piazzolla pays homage to Vivaldi, blending jazz and tango rhythms with classical elements and weaving a tonal tapestry that ranges from percussive to wistful.

Featured violin soloists are Sarah Johnson, Stefani Collins, Janet Orenstein and Fabian Lopez. Piazzolla will be conducted by Matthew Troy. Read More...
