Four violin soloists reveal their virtuosity against the backdrop of a string chamber orchestra in a Baroque classic and its modern alternate, Piazzolla's Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas. Piazzolla's work depicts the four seasons in Buenos Aires by fusing seductive rhythms of Argentian tango with the sultry tone colors of Latin America

April 5, 2008 - Schubert's Octet


Weatherspoon Art Museum Corner of Spring Garden and Tate streets, Greensboro

An ideal springtime afternoon: the defining chamber work of Franz Schubert, a backdrop of fine art, and all of it free, courtesy of the Triad Chamber Music Society. This concert will last but one hour, and in that span distill the essence of the Viennese early romantic style. This remarkable piece suffuses perfect classical form with exquisite melodies that are quintessentially Schubert.

To complement Ancestry and Innovation, the acclaimed national traveling exhibition at Reynolda House, this concert features the splendor of Black American music -- ranging from the authentic spirituals to modern art songs and instrumental works by celebrated Twentieth-century Black composers.

Selections to be chosen from Hall Johnson’s Thirty Negro Spirituals for Voice and Piano, H.T. Burleigh’s Book of Spirituals,  and John Rosamond Johnson and James Weldon Johnson’s Book of Negro Spirituals.
